Magic: The Gathering is expanding its Marvel crossover slate with a new Universes Beyond set, “Darkhold Destiny,” announced at New York Comic Con. The set is scheduled for 2027 and centers on Marvel’s mystical and mythic characters, including Doctor Strange, Thor, Ghost Rider, Hela, and Dormammu, set against cosmic villains.
Sources report that “Darkhold Destiny” includes standard booster packs and Collector booster packs, plus four pre-constructed Commander decks themed around Marvel heroes and villains, including the Midnight Sons. Wizards of the Coast and Marvel co-develop an original story for the expansion, and a new character created for the set is set to debut via a Marvel Infinity comic series beginning in February.
The outlets also note gameplay features highlighted during the announcement, including “Vengeance,” a mechanic that allows casting spells from a graveyard and returning the attached permanent to the battlefield, along with the return of the Arcane spell subtype. The set’s release date is reported as April 9, with availability through big-box retailers and local game stores. Variety additionally mentions a theater-only promotional card giveaway tied to “Avengers: Doomsday.”
