New Zealand Cricket says it will wear a special limited-edition ODI jersey during next month’s series against India, marking 100 years of sporting ties between the two countries. The “Kotahitanga” shirt features lotus flowers, mandala-style patterns and other motifs intended to reflect cultural links between New Zealand and India.
New Zealand Cricket credits artists Ben Thomason, Shiv Narandas and Jai Pancha for the design. Indian motifs highlighted in the jersey include the lotus, a repeating ogee pattern drawn from Indian architecture, and mandala elements used to create a symmetrical framework. Thomason’s contribution includes Māori-inspired abstract painted scroll designs, including kowhaiwhai, layered over haehae lines, with the overall look aiming to connect themes of past and present.
Outlets also note that the India tour begins with a five-match T20I series on 22 October, followed by five ODIs starting 4 November. New Zealand officials describe the jersey as a collector’s item for fans in both countries.
