A first-year student at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ranchi is found hanging in his hostel room, police say. The death comes after hostel inmates alerted the administration on Saturday night when the room was locked from inside. Police identify the student as Aditya, from Bihar’s Purnia district, aged about 19–20, and say exams had started on October 8. His body is sent for a post-mortem examination at RIMS.
Police preliminary findings indicate the student died by suicide amid examination pressure. However, students protest on campus and allege negligence by college authorities, including delays in arranging medical aid. Students say there was no immediate hospital transport, and they claim the ambulance lacked a driver and that staff did not allow them to provide CPR. The institute director also responds to the students’ allegations, while officials state the incident is under investigation and describe the case as a suicide at this stage.
Outlets report consistent core details—how the body was found, students’ protest, and claims of delayed medical support—but differ in emphasis between police’s suicide preliminary view and students’ insistence that it is a “murder case.”
