Armed, masked men rob a beverage outlet in East Canje, Berbice, taking about $10.2 million in cash, police say. The robbery happens around 19:35 on Saturday at the business premises of 57-year-old businessman Jagnaven Persaud, also known as “Balram,” in Number 2 Village, East Canje, Region Six. Police report the attackers threatened the cashier at gunpoint, searched drawers, and no shots are fired and no injuries are reported during the roughly 15 to 20-minute incident.

Three suspects are arrested in connection with the robbery, and police recover some of the stolen cash and at least one firearm. While outlets agree on the theft and the arrests, they differ mainly in emphasis: some reports focus on the scale and details of the attack, and others highlight the businessman’s account. Investigators say information provided by suspects in custody indicates the robbery may have involved inside assistance, suggesting someone had knowledge of the cash or layout.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the robbery and the full amount taken.
