Supporters of Nigeria’s NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement protest at the INEC office in Kano after the names of NDC governorship candidate Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and running mate Mustapha Rabiu (Mustapha Rabi’u) were left out of the commission’s final list for the 2027 governorship election. The demonstrators say the party met nomination requirements and want INEC to correct the omission.

Across the reports, the protesters give different explanations for what caused the problem. The Kwankwasiyya Movement alleges an INEC staff member colluded with unauthorised people, citing claims of forged letters and possible candidate substitution. Other NDC representatives point to what they describe as an INEC “computer glitch” or a technical error, saying INEC told them the matter can be rectified.

In response, Kano’s Resident Electoral Commissioner Abdu Zango receives the petition and says it will be forwarded to INEC headquarters. He also notes INEC has provided reasons for the omission and opens an appeal window until October 24. The Kwankwasiyya Movement urges the NDC to submit required documents and consider legal remedies within the timeframe provided by law.
