Guyana’s hospitality sector is projected to approach nearly 6,000 hotel rooms by the end of 2026, according to Kamrul Baksh, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA). He shares the forecast during the recently concluded State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) 2026, which brought together more than 300 delegates from across the Caribbean and internationally.
Baksh links the growth in room supply to rising visitor numbers and increasing hotel investment. Both outlets describe the accommodation expansion as a response to demand, noting that room capacity was relatively smaller in 2020 and has since grown through the government’s push to invest in tourism.
Looking past 2026, Baksh also indicates further additions are expected, including more hotels entering the market. The planned build-out is presented as aimed at supporting segments that rely on steady accommodation availability, particularly MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions), as well as diaspora travel and leisure tourism.
