Nepalese authorities arrest 24 South Koreans on tourist visas for taking part in a religious training programme, local reports say. The arrests follow participation in activities at New Covenant College in Morang district, Koshi province, according to Nepalese outlet Ratopati, as cited by South Korean media.
The Koreans are accused of activities that may breach the conditions of their tourist visas. In Nepal, foreign nationals admitted on tourist visas are generally not allowed to conduct religious education or missionary-type activities, and police reportedly assess whether specific actions violated visa rules. New Covenant College is described as a Christian educational institution that offers religious studies and education with support from a Korea-based missionary organization.
Seoul’s foreign ministry says it is aware of the arrests and has been in close contact with Nepalese authorities through the Korean Embassy in Nepal. The ministry adds that it does not provide additional details beyond its liaison with local officials, reflecting limited publicly available information across outlets.
