Donald Trump reposts a social media claim attributed to actor Denzel Washington praising him as “a great friend” and “an even better president.” The post, originally shared on X and then repeated by Trump on Truth Social, also asks users to confirm whether they agree with the alleged endorsement.
Fact-checkers say the quote is not supported by credible reporting. Snopes reports it found no evidence that Washington has publicly spoken favourably about Trump in major entertainment or news outlets, noting that if an actor of Washington’s profile had made the statements attributed to him, coverage would likely have been widespread. Snopes also says the same or similar fabricated quote has circulated in memes before, including claims involving other public figures.
Across outlets, the focus is on the spread of the false attribution and the subsequent fact-checking response. HuffPost UK and others add that the quote has been presented as part of a longer-running pattern of misleading political memes, including earlier debunked misquotes connected to Washington.
