Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar challenges President Bola Tinubu to explain reported changes to the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and to clarify allegations of a new loan request of up to $20 billion tied to the project.

Atiku says Tinubu’s government advertised a coastal route but that the Works Minister, David Umahi, has indicated parts of the highway will be rerouted through the existing East–West Road from Ondo State into Edo State. In his statement, Atiku argues the change is substantial rather than a minor adjustment, and he calls for transparency on the basis of the decision, including publication of the original studies and revised designs.

Atiku also disputes what he describes as a lack of openness around costs and payments, demanding disclosure of what has already been paid, how contract prices will change, and what the alleged $20bn borrowing would finance. The reports he cites say the Presidency is pushing the National Assembly to approve the loan, though the outlets summarise his call for Tinubu to confirm whether such a request exists and to release relevant documentation and contract details.
