Punjab releases its final electoral rolls after a months-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR), removing more than 13.6 lakh names and reducing the registered electorate by 6.33%. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) says the final rolls contain 2,01,00,727 voters across 117 Assembly constituencies, down from 2,14,61,043 at the start of the revision. NDTV and other outlets report that this brings Punjab’s voter base to around 2 crore.

Outlets also agree that the number rises compared with the draft list published on August 13, which had 1,93,94,435 voters. The CEO’s office says 7,97,263 new voters are added in the final roll. The SIR process removes or marks entries linked to deceased voters, those who have permanently migrated, absent electors, and duplicates. According to reporting, notices are issued to large numbers of electors during verification, with some declared ineligible after the claim-and-objection period. The exercise is carried out ahead of the anticipated February 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
