Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says the country will submit the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement to parliament for ratification in the coming days. The pact is described as a joint defence arrangement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and Erdoğan makes the announcement after a cabinet meeting.

In the same remarks, Erdoğan also says Turkey strongly condemns recent attacks on Saudi Arabia carried out by the Houthis. Multiple outlets report Erdoğan’s position that Turkey stands with Saudi Arabia against what he characterizes as unlawful and inhumane attacks. While the outlets agree on the parliamentary step for the Mecca pact and on Erdoğan’s comments regarding the Houthi attacks, they mainly differ in emphasis and framing: some focus more directly on the defence agreement’s timeline for parliamentary presentation, while others foreground Erdoğan’s expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia in response to the attacks.
