Two commercial vessels are reported hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UK maritime agency UKMTO. The agency says an investigation is underway and does not specify damage or casualties. Multiple outlets also describe additional incidents involving tankers in the wider Hormuz region, including claims of mines and other attacks, with videos circulating online.

The attacks come amid continued confrontation over access to the strategic waterway. Iranian authorities say the strait is under their control and that they target ships attempting to transit without permission, while the United States has imposed measures affecting Iranian ports. Bloomberg and other reporting add that escalation is affecting maritime operations: more empty supertankers are reported turning back or pulling away from the Persian Gulf and away from a key transfer area near Fujairah, which some shippers use as an interim hub for moving oil around the risk zone. This retrenchment raises concerns about how quickly shuttle tankers can transfer crude and about the sustainability of recent recovery in oil exports.
