B.R. Shetty has filed a damages lawsuit seeking USD 15 billion against Bank of Baroda and 25 other defendants, alleging they were involved in financial irregularities linked to NMC Healthcare and UAE Exchange. The suit claims bank officials enabled suspicious transactions, facilitated fund routing through accounts associated with alleged sham suppliers, and did not act on compliance concerns. Shetty says certain transactions were conducted using his name without his knowledge or authorisation.

Across reports, the figures and basic allegations are consistent, though the reported damages breakdown varies by outlet. NDTV says the plaint summary requests USD 5 billion each for direct and consequential damages, with interest at 18% per annum, against the defendants jointly and severally. Business Line characterises the lender as having acted as an “instrument of fraud.” The Free Press Journal adds that the lawsuit cites alleged use of personal guarantees bearing Shetty’s forged signature and alleges widespread anti-money-laundering alerts—reportedly over 1,000—were closed without investigation.

The claims have not been decided by a court. The reports also note a separate prior development: in July 2026, Bank of Baroda agreed to pay USD 600 million to settle earlier NMC-related litigation without admitting wrongdoing.
