A new AP-NORC poll finds that a majority of Americans say President Donald Trump prioritizes his personal financial interests over the country as a whole. Multiple outlets report that respondents also view Trump and his family business as having profited from the presidency in ways they consider unethical or possibly illegal.

Across the coverage, results vary in emphasis but align on the core finding: roughly 6 in 10 U.S. adults say Trump is either illegally profiting or behaving unethically (though not illegal), while far fewer say he is doing nothing wrong. The polling also shows that just over half of adults say Trump puts a “lot” of emphasis on personal businesses, compared with only about a quarter who say he emphasizes the country “a lot.”

The outlets also note sharp partisan differences. Democrats are substantially more likely than independents or Republicans to say Trump broke the law, while many Republicans either disagree or say they do not know enough to judge. The White House, according to the reports, dismisses the accusations and says Trump has no conflicts of interest. The poll surveyed 2,140 adults from Sept. 24 to 28, with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points overall.
