The Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleges that a woman tried to attack former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee with a knife near her home in Kolkata’s Kalighat area on Tuesday evening. TMC members say the incident occurred around 6 p.m. as Banerjee was returning from a Durga Puja pandal inauguration. The Hindu reports there are no injuries to Banerjee.
TMC officials claim the woman was identified as Tannishtha Saha, who reportedly described herself as a civic volunteer, and they allege she was intoxicated. Multiple outlets also report TMC’s assertions that she is a drug addict and that she behaved aggressively, including using abusive language. Mint adds that the party’s complaint says the confrontation began after an intoxicated intruder allegedly breached perimeter gates in a high-security zone. The TMC says it has filed a police complaint at Kalighat police station, supported by video attachments, and has requested police action. The accounts are allegations made by the party and not independently verified in the reports.
