Water regulator Ofwat sets out draft plans for water firms to return a total of £240 million to households by 2030 after underperforming against service and investment expectations. The bill reductions form part of Ofwat’s provisional approach to performance-based funding, reducing charges paid by customers.
According to the draft proposals, £107 million is scheduled to be returned through customer bills in 2027-28, with the remaining payments reflected in later years up to 2029-30. Outlets also report that the largest portions would be taken through bills for specific companies, including Thames Water and Yorkshire Water, though the exact timing and amounts vary by firm and year under Ofwat’s plans.
