Ukrainian drones strike Sberbank’s main data processing centre in Balakovo, in Russia’s Saratov region, according to multiple reports. The facility, located more than 650 km from Ukraine, is described as Russia’s largest data centre and is associated with very large server capacity and high power availability.
Outlets differ on certain details. One report highlights the site’s scale, including claims of 82 MW capacity and housing up to 120,000 servers. Another notes the building’s size and frames it as one of Europe’s largest planned data centres, with construction expected to finish in 2030. Cyprus Mail adds that a senior Sberbank executive says the attack does not disrupt operations and describes it as following several prior drone strikes on data centres owned by Russian technology and banking groups.
