Elon Musk and his America PAC reach a settlement agreement to resolve a class action lawsuit over claims that its $1 million daily voter giveaways ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election were not truly random. The payments were tied to signing an online petition in several battleground states, according to reports.

Outlets describe that, during legal proceedings, Musk’s side disputes that the arrangement was an illegal lottery. A Pennsylvania challenge focused on allegations that winners were effectively hand-picked rather than randomly selected. One report says the recipients were chosen based on factors such as their “story” and suitability to serve as spokespeople for the PAC. Another outlet reports that 18 people received the $1 million payouts during the period leading up to Election Day.

According to multiple sources, the settlement was announced in filings submitted to a federal judge in Austin, Texas, covering two related lawsuits. The sources do not provide final settlement terms publicly, including what amount Musk or the PAC will pay plaintiffs, and the deal remains subject to court approval.
