Roku is rolling out a redesigned home screen, its biggest update in more than a decade, introducing more personalization features and expanding the visibility of advertising placements. Multiple outlets report the company is keeping Roku City available, including adding an on-screen tile to access it on demand. The update adds new sections such as “Top Picks for You” recommendations based on viewing history and what is trending, and an AI-powered “Quick Access” area that surfaces frequently used apps. Roku also introduces curated content hubs (“Destinations”) organized by genres and moods, along with shortcuts to functions like Continue Watching and Sleep Timer.
Several sources highlight that the user interface changes improve personalization but also increase the prominence of ads. A new, persistently displayed “marquee” ad unit takes up a large portion of the screen, replacing the earlier model where the ad appeared only in certain views.
Roku says the experience adapts to how households use devices, supporting different layouts for multiple people in a home. The rollout begins in the U.S. for Roku TVs and streaming devices, with additional countries expected in the coming months, and changes are delivered automatically without requiring a separate software update.
