The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the amalgamation of the Indian branches of Dubai-based Emirates NBD Bank (P.J.S.C.) with RBL Bank. The RBI says the merger will take effect on December 1, 2026, with Emirates NBD’s Indian branches functioning as branches of RBL Bank from that date.
The deal follows earlier approvals and capital moves between the parties. In May, India’s Finance Ministry approved Emirates NBD’s plan to acquire up to a 74% stake in RBL Bank. Emirates NBD completes a capital infusion of about $2.75 billion (around Rs 26,000 crore) and acquires a 60% stake in RBL Bank’s expanded share capital, which sources report was completed in June 2026 after regulatory approvals and required closing conditions.
While all outlets focus on the RBI’s approval and the December 1, 2026 effective date, they differ mainly in emphasis: some detail the earlier stake acquisition and infusion, while others keep the reporting brief around the RBI decision. The RBI statement does not specify whether customer services or operational arrangements will change after the amalgamation.
