A man identified as Kaylub Giamanco fatally shoots a teenage gunman during an attack at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, according to multiple reports. PBS NewsHour and Newsweek say Giamanco is the father of two daughters who attend the school. NBC News reports that he is driving home from lunch when he hears gunshots and sees the shooter entering the building.
His mother, Kenda Freeman, tells PBS NewsHour that he intervenes during the Thursday attack and shoots the teenage shooter. Newsweek similarly identifies Giamanco through relatives and notes that he has two daughters enrolled at the school. NBC News adds that Giamanco is identified by a brother, offering another family-based account of his actions during the incident. The outlets describe consistent details about who he is and his connection to the school, while differing in how they obtained and presented identification information.
