India dispatches emergency medical supplies to help respond to an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to multiple reports citing Africa CDC and India’s external affairs officials. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) says the donated consignment includes essential diagnostics, therapeutics, infection prevention and control materials, and case management support. The supplies are routed through Africa CDC’s eastern regional coordination arrangements, with delivery received in Uganda by its Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre before being deployed to affected communities in eastern DRC. Africa CDC acknowledges the assistance as support for the response to the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, describing it as an important contribution to ongoing containment and care efforts. Another report notes that the first tranche of medical supplies is shared with Africa CDC through the Indian government’s channel. The reports also reference the broader international emergency context, noting that the WHO has declared the Ebola situation involving parts of the DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
