Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee is assaulted in Sonarpur, West Bengal, during a visit to the home of a party worker allegedly killed in post-poll violence. Banerjee claims BJP activists are behind a planned attempt to kill him and says he received a “threat call,” while TMC leaders accuse the BJP of orchestrating the assault to disrupt his outreach. He is injured and is hospitalised, and his aunt, Mamata Banerjee, visits him at the hospital.
In the aftermath, Banerjee plans legal action, including approaching higher courts, and informs the Lok Sabha Speaker about the incident. NDTV reports that five people are arrested in connection with the attack. The BJP denies involvement and says the incident reflects public anger, while pointing to TMC’s past actions against its opponents’ workers.
