Manchester City win the Women’s FA Cup at Wembley with a 4-0 victory over Brighton, securing a historic domestic double. After Brighton start the final with early pressure and look the stronger side for parts of the match, City gradually take control and make more decisive use of their chances.
Khadija Shaw opens the scoring in the 38th minute, heading in from an Alex Greenwood cross. Greenwood then extends City’s lead just before half-time by scoring a free-kick, putting the champions 2-0 ahead at the break.
In the second half, Aoba Fujino adds the third goal after her effort deflects past Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Vivianne Miedema completes the scoring with a fourth goal for City.
The result gives Manchester City the Women’s FA Cup for a fourth time and the club’s first league-and-cup double in the same season. Shaw also signs a new contract with the club around the time of the final, and her Wembley goal takes her Women’s FA Cup tally to 20 goals in 19 appearances.
