Enugu State Government dismisses multiple viral social media claims alleging attacks on residents in Awgu Local Government Area and suggesting an imminent attack on the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). According to the state, there is no record or confirmation of any such incident occurring in Awgu or anywhere else in the state. The government describes the reports as false, misleading and “fake news,” and it urges residents to disregard unverified information circulating online.
In separate statements, the state’s information authorities also respond to a post insinuating a possible attack at UNN, saying it is unfounded. The government links the circulation of these claims to efforts by “criminal elements” to create panic and confusion within the university community and the wider state.
Across the reports, Enugu State maintains that the claims are not supported by facts and calls on the public to rely on verified sources instead of social media posts.
