Meta says it is making its “13+” content settings the default for Teen Accounts worldwide across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. The company describes the setting as similar to a movie rating and says it is designed to show age-appropriate content by default. Meta previously introduced the system in select markets, including the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, in October, and is now extending it globally.
According to reports, the update uses the 13+ framework to limit what teens see in key areas such as Feed and Reels on Facebook. Separately, Meta is also introducing “Limited Content” on Instagram for parents who want stricter restrictions than the default 13+ settings.
One outlet notes Meta plans further rollout timing for other platforms, indicating that Facebook and Messenger will receive the expanded safeguards later this year. Overall, the changes focus on improving teen feed protections and providing additional parental controls on Instagram.
