Federal prosecutors are investigating former U.S. Rep. George Santos for alleged insider trading involving prediction-market trades on Kalshi tied to his own attendance at President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, according to multiple reports citing a person familiar with the matter. The information surfaced after Kalshi flagged suspicious betting activity connected to whether Santos would appear at the Feb. 24 speech. Reportedly, Santos had repeatedly said on social media that he would attend. Around the time of the address, he posted that he was delayed or waylaid at the airport, and he allegedly had a corresponding position on Kalshi that he would not attend. Kalshi referred the matter to the Department of Justice and also reported it to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a federal regulator that has signaled a crackdown on insider trading in prediction markets. The DOJ and CFTC did not immediately respond to requests for comment in the reports. Santos did not clearly confirm or deny the investigation, and he previously told NPR he was not aware of it. The episode adds to broader scrutiny of prediction markets and their safeguards against information advantages.
