Scientists with the SETI Institute conduct a radio search for possible technosignatures from 3I/ATLAS, the third interstellar object confirmed in the solar system. Using the Allen Telescope Array at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory in Northern California, the team performs a radio scan across a range of frequencies and reports no detectable evidence of extraterrestrial technology. The observations include a seven-hour scan, and the results align with other astronomical findings about 3I/ATLAS that indicate it behaves like a natural comet and has a natural, comet-like composition rather than exhibiting features that would suggest artificial origin.
The SETI Institute’s findings are published in The Astronomical Journal. While the study does not rule out the possibility of non-radio or otherwise undetected signals, it concludes that no technosignatures are present within the sensitivity and frequency coverage of this radio search. Both outlets emphasize the absence of signals from the interstellar object during the conducted observations.
