Apple announces a new feature in its Passwords app that automatically replaces weak or compromised passwords. The update extends Passwords’ existing capability to detect weak, reused, or breached credentials and to alert users to recommended changes. Previously, users typically had to open each affected website and manually update credentials one by one.
With the new functionality, Apple Intelligence and Safari work together to complete the password-change flow on the user’s behalf. Apple describes the system as “agentic,” meaning it performs the steps needed to sign in and update an account to a stronger password with minimal user effort beyond an initial user action. Apple also says the process is handled securely, and it provides user feedback by showing the activity as a Live Activity when the automated upgrade is running.
The feature is designed to reduce friction while addressing common credential risks identified by Passwords, such as weak passwords and passwords exposed in known breaches.
