The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) announces another reduction in the fuel surcharge airlines may charge, with changes effective June 16 through June 30. In a Thursday advisory, the regulator sets the allowable fuel surcharge at Level 12 for the second half of June. This follows a higher Level 13 surcharge that applies during the first half of the month, which in turn is lower than the record-high Level 19 imposed from April 16 to 30. The CAB’s action is meant to reflect more recent fuel-price conditions and to translate those adjustments into airfare changes for passengers. Airlines will be permitted to apply the revised surcharge levels to eligible domestic and international routes under the CAB’s fare rules. As a result, travelers who book and fly during the June 16–30 window may see slightly lower total airfares compared with the earlier period when the higher surcharge level was in effect.
