South Korean President Lee Jae Myung says South Korea and Italy are “optimal partners” for business cooperation, arguing the two countries can help shape a “new industrial order” amid rapid technological change. In Rome, Lee delivers remarks at a business roundtable focused on expanding economic cooperation, with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and business leaders from both countries expected to attend. Lee also links the partnership to cooperation in advanced and emerging sectors, including semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI). A day earlier, Lee met Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and the two leaders agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a “special strategic partnership” and explore further cooperation in strategic areas. Lee further expresses hope that South Korea and Italy work together to promote a rule-based international order, including global free trade and multilateralism. He also says a new bilateral cooperation framework is needed, highlighting the ongoing state visit that includes his discussions with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after a prior meeting in Seoul in January.
