Edo State schools that were temporarily closed over security concerns are set to reopen on Monday, 15 June 2026, following an announced review and the deployment of enhanced safety measures. The Edo State Government, through a circular issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere, confirms the return of academic activities for schools affected by the shutdown.
The closure followed concerns raised by Nigeria’s Department of State Services about possible bandit attacks, and Governor Monday Okpebholo ordered schools shut as intelligence reports indicated a planned mass abduction of students. The circular says conditions have since changed and that arrangements are in place to protect learners, teachers and other staff.
Among the institutions named are Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School in Akoko-Edo. School heads, proprietors and education authorities are directed to prepare for students’ safe return and to maintain close collaboration with security agencies and community leaders. The government also reassures parents and guardians that it will continue monitoring developments to protect lives and property.
