A Yemeni adventurer nicknamed “The Spider-Man of Yemen” dies after falling into a volcanic crater while scaling steep rock faces without safety equipment, authorities say. Multiple outlets report that Al-Qaqa Ibn Antar, 30, was climbing the Hardah Dam volcanic crater in Yemen’s southern province of Dhale on Friday. Accounts say he lost his grip during the climb and fell into the crater, which one report describes as about 120 metres (393 feet) deep.
Civil defense authorities lead a search and recovery effort after the fall. One outlet says his body is recovered after nearly 24 hours, following a prolonged operation involving local emergency responders. A short video posted by civil defense is cited by some reports as showing the moment of the fall.
