Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in France on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, the White House says. Reports indicate the meeting is set to take place on Wednesday, following multiple engagements planned for Trump during his visit. This would be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since February last year in Washington, after phone calls earlier in the year. The discussions come as tensions rise following the deaths of three Indian sailors linked to attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. officials and media reports also point to broader friction in the relationship, including recent developments that have strained ties, as well as U.S. moves that include tariffs on Indian goods. At the same time, the leaders have reportedly continued dialogue, including agreement on a framework for an interim bilateral trade deal reached in February that is under negotiation. During Trump’s G7-related schedule, he is also reported to hold separate bilateral meetings with leaders including Qatar’s emir and the UAE’s president, and to engage with other allies on issues described as of shared importance, such as economic growth, supply chain resilience, and artificial intelligence.
