A 21-year-old Brazilian woman, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, dies after a fatal fall during a rope-jumping activity in Limeira, in Brazil’s São Paulo state. Multiple reports describe the incident as occurring on June 13 at Limeira’s “Skeleton Bridge,” where participants are typically attached to safety ropes before making a pendulum-style jump. According to preliminary information cited by authorities, a critical safety failure occurred before the jump. Witnesses and videos circulated online reportedly indicate that the main lifeline was not properly attached to her before she was launched from the platform. In the footage, spectators call out about the rope as instructors place her on the jumping platform and then push or launch her.
Maria fell about 40 metres and died at the scene, suffering multiple traumatic injuries, according to the accounts. An investigation is underway. Reports say six people were taken for questioning at a local police station, while three remained detained as inquiries continue. Maria was described as living in the São Paulo metropolitan area and as having worked at a gym and posted about fitness. A GoPro camera she carried during the activity was not recovered after the fall.
