Apple TV+ renews the science-fiction thriller Dark Matter for a second season. The series, based on Blake Crouch’s best-selling novel of the same name, follows Jason/Joe(l) Dessen as he confronts an altered reality after disappearing and waking to find his life changed and unrecognizable to those around him. Across multiple versions of the story, the plot centers on a “box” that opens doorways to alternate lives and the presence of a different version of Dessen who takes over Jason’s identity, forcing him to search for answers and try to protect his family.
The show is led by Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen and Jennifer Connelly as Daniela Dessen, with supporting cast including Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, Jimmi Simpson, and Alice Braga. Dark Matter is produced by Matt Tolmach Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Five Henrys, and it is created by Blake Crouch.
For Season 2, Apple TV+ sets the release date for August 28, 2026. The sources also reference the first season’s Apple TV+ streaming debut in 2024, with the first two episodes scheduled to arrive together.
