Atiku Abubakar’s special assistant on public communication, Phrank Shaibu, says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) “lost nothing” when former Anambra State governor Peter Obi left the party. Speaking on Trust TV on Sunday, Shaibu argued that Obi is not departing to the disadvantage of ADC, framing the move as Obi finding a “haven” elsewhere. He described Obi as “having fun” in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after Obi’s exit from ADC earlier last month.
The reports also note that Obi and former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso moved from ADC to the NDC. They reportedly cited internal divisions within ADC and ongoing court cases as reasons for their decision. Shaibu’s comments focus on the political impact of the defection, rather than on any specific legal or procedural issue. He also made remarks about the internal structure of the NDC, including references to a “Supreme Leader,” contrasting it with more visible party leadership roles he said are absent in his view.
