Apple says it will update how it issues private email addresses for two services: Sign in with Apple and iCloud+ Hide My Email. The company plans to unify the domains used for these generated addresses under a single private.icloud.com domain later this summer.
Currently, Sign in with Apple private addresses use the privaterelay.appleid.com domain, while iCloud+ Hide My Email uses icloud.com. After the change, both services will issue addresses on the new private.icloud.com domain. Apple states that email addresses created using the legacy domains will continue to work, and Apple will forward mail without interruption.
Apple also says developers and account operators may need to prepare for the new domain. This includes updating allowlists, email validation logic, and any account systems or routing rules that depend on specific address domains. It may also require changes to filtering, suppression lists, or other domain-based processing used by email service providers.
Apple indicates that regular users do not need to take action and that both services will continue to function as expected.
