Russian opposition artist Robert Kuzovkov, who also uses the pseudonym Semyon Skrepetsky, is shot and killed in eastern Poland, according to multiple outlets citing Polish officials. The attack takes place in the town of Biała Podlaska. A Polish prosecutor says five shots are fired, including one to the head, during an attack on Monday. The artist had been living in exile in Poland. Kuzovkov is known for caricatures and performances that criticize Vladimir Putin and other political figures. Several reports describe his satirical depictions of Putin, including portraying him in an icon-like or caricature style, and some include that he also portrayed Josef Stalin.
The outlets also report that two people described as Belarusians are detained by authorities in connection with the killing, as stated by a spokesperson for the district prosecutor in Lublin. DW and other sources add that three days before the killing, Skrepetsky protested outside the Russian embassy in Berlin with an image of Putin alongside Stalin. Reports differ in phrasing about motive, but all describe the death, location, and his history of anti-Kremlin satire.
