Thane Municipal Corporation announces a 24-hour water supply shutdown affecting several areas starting on Thursday, with water service expected to be restored on Friday. According to reports, the shutdown begins around midday and follows a precautionary decision linked to projected monsoon delays attributed to climate impacts such as El Niño and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). The measure also includes a mandatory 20% reduction in water supply to manage resources and reduce the risk of shortages in the coming months. Officials say the reduction is implemented alongside operational changes by MIDC, including halting supply from its Jambhul water treatment plant for maintenance and supply management. Areas reported to be affected include parts under ward committee jurisdictions such as Diva and Kalwa, Mumbra (with limited exclusions in certain wards), and localities under Wagle and Manpada ward committees, including specific pockets listed by the civic body. The municipal corporation also warns that even after the shutdown ends, water may be supplied at low pressure for the following 48 hours while pipeline system pressure is restored. Residents are urged to store adequate water in advance and conserve water during the period, with provisions for tanker requests through the disaster management cell.
