Apple releases new AirPods and Beats earbud firmware for developers and general users

Apple today released updated beta firmware for the AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, and AirPods Max 2. The firmware is limited to developers at the current time, and it has a build number of 9A5304b. In iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate, Apple is adding a new AirPods interface and support for custom EQ. AirPods are also compatible with the new Siri AI. With iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe, Apple added a beta firmware update installation option that's available from the AirPods settings interface when the AirPods are connected to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, which facilitates beta testing. Macworld While most of us are looking ahead to the new iOS 27 features on our devices, Apple isn’t done with iOS 26 just yet. Earlier this week, Apple issued the second iOS 26.6 beta for testing, and on Tuesday, it pushed out a new firmware update for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 users. As is usually the case, we don’t know what it does, only that it offers “bug fixes and other improvements.” The new version number is 8B41, up from 8B39 for the AirPods Pro 2, which was issued in March, and 8B40 for the ‌AirPods Pro 3‌, which were last updated in May. There’s no way to force a firmware installation on your AirPods, but to make sure they update, put them in the charging case, close the lid, plug in a USB-C cable connected to power, and wait about 30 minutes. You can tell when the AirPods are updating by checking the Settings app. If you want to check your firmware version, head over to the Settings app and tap on the name of your AirPods. Then scroll down to the bottom of your AirPods settings to see the current version number. Additionally, Apple also released new firmware for its Beats Studio Buds (1B211). No other models received an update in this round of releases. Apple will introduce a series of new features for AirPods in the fall when iOS 27 arrives. Among the new features is a custom equalizer that finally lets you manually adjust the treble and bass, Precision Finding with the Find My app, and heart-rate sync when using gym equipment with AirPods Pro 3.

Keep the case closed and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware update to install. After that, check the version number and repeat the process if the update hasn't been installed.
