Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi says internal disagreements within political parties are normal and should not be treated as a crisis. In an interview aired by Nevon Media on Tuesday, Obi addressed reports of tensions inside the NDC and public reaction to opposition criticism. He argues that disagreements and minor issues occur in every organisation, and what matters is how they are handled, noting that such differences are usually resolved internally without stopping the party’s progress.
Obi also responded to concerns raised by party figures, including activist Aisha Yesufu, saying differing opinions and expressions of dissatisfaction are part of political engagement and do not automatically indicate a deeper structural problem. On a separate issue involving NDC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo, Obi said a legal dispute began after public allegations that could not be ignored, while stressing the need for accountability and evidence in political statements. He added that leaders should accept scrutiny so the public can understand their positions. Obi further said future leaders should be chosen based on integrity, competence, character and qualifications, rather than loyalty alone.
