Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says leaders attending the Group of Seven (G7) summit in France agree to provide additional support to Ukraine in its war against Russia. In comments posted on social media, Zelenskyy says the G7 commitments include strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses. He also says the leaders will help ensure Ukraine’s energy supply and improve energy resilience.
Zelenskyy further states that the G7 will step up international economic pressure on Russia, including introducing new sanctions. Multiple outlets report that the pledges are intended to support Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and to maintain energy systems amid the ongoing conflict, now in its fifth year since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
Euronews also frames the outcome as boosting Zelenskyy’s position ahead of further diplomacy, with the overall message being continued backing from major advanced economies. Times of India adds that the summit discussed ways to expand Western weapons manufacturing for Ukraine, alongside the military and economic measures reported by other outlets.
