Maharashtra State Excise officials in Bhiwandi intercept a container truck on the Mumbai–Nashik Highway and seize an interstate consignment of liquor reportedly made in Goa. According to the reports, the truck is stopped within the jurisdiction of Bhiwandi/Vadpe village and is found to be transporting liquor in 1,620 boxes marked as Goa liquor. The consignment is reported to be valued at about Rs 1.63 crore, with the overall seizure assessed at around Rs 1.90 crore when the vehicle is included. Authorities say the truck is disguised as carrying electronics, and the liquor is allegedly destined for Rajasthan, with preliminary investigations indicating a route from Goa to Udaipur, Rajasthan. The excise department arrests the truck driver and registers a case under relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Excise Act. Officials state the action is based on specific intelligence and forms part of broader efforts to curb illegal cross-border liquor transportation, evade excise rules, and dismantle organised smuggling networks. Further investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved and the intended recipients of the consignment.
