The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State says it will not participate in the state’s forthcoming local government election. Both outlets report that the party makes the declaration through a statement issued in Ibadan by its publicity secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, noting that the local government election is scheduled for December 2026.

Vanguard adds that the APC rejects the election on political and governance grounds. It accuses the state governor of trying to install loyalists in local government councils ahead of the end of his tenure. The party argues that holding the poll in those circumstances would further worsen governance problems at the grassroots level.

Neither report indicates that the election has been suspended or that another party has changed its position. The APC’s decision therefore frames the dispute primarily as one of legitimacy and the timing of council appointments, rather than as an immediate procedural challenge to the election plan.
