Australian Federal Police say they have uncovered what they describe as the country’s largest cocaine seizure: about 2.7 tonnes hidden on Sydney’s western fringes. According to multiple reports, officers found the drugs on 19 June at a semi-rural property in Londonderry. The cocaine was reportedly stored in plastic tubs and placed in underground bunkers concealed beneath structures including shipping containers and false floors.

Police arrested two men at the scene and charged them over the alleged drug trafficking. Reports identify the operation as involving a joint organised crime investigation force, with investigators alleging a Sydney-based organised crime group arranged for a foreign vessel to offload cocaine in northern Queensland before it was moved to Sydney for distribution.

Investigations into the origin of the drugs are described as ongoing, with authorities saying they will continue working with international and domestic law enforcement partners. Several outlets also note that the men could face very lengthy prison sentences if convicted.
