Sam Amadi, director of the Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics, says political contenders in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election are campaigning against the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, rather than against incumbent President Bola Tinubu. In posts on X reported by multiple outlets, Amadi argues that the contest is structured around opposing Obi and that candidates are not primarily defining their campaigns in relation to the current president.
Amadi also characterizes the 2027 election as “the most farcical election” in Nigeria’s history. He criticizes the way some public figures describe or frame the contest, saying “self-proclaimed intellectuals and technocrats” are engaging with what he describes as illogic.
Both sources state that Obi, who ran for president in 2023 on the Labour Party ticket, is expected to seek the presidency again in 2027. They also note that he would face incumbent Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), described as leading contenders. The reports present Amadi’s comments as a political critique rather than a confirmed statement of campaign platforms.
