Authorities in Tacloban City place a police officer under restrictive custody after linking a firearm she owned to the school shooting at San Jose National High School. Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) says the officer is an aunt of one of two minor suspects. PRO-8 spokesperson Lt. Col. Analiza Armeza states that investigators confirm one of the guns used in the attack is linked to the officer, prompting an investigation into her alleged involvement through firearm ownership.
In a separate update, PRO-8 director Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy says the officer is relieved from her post after being placed under restrictive custody by a superior. Capoy also says an administrative investigation is being prepared.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) says the officer will face summary dismissal proceedings. PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co identifies the weapon as a 9mm Glock 17 owned by the officer and allegedly used by the 14-year-old suspect, identified as “Nash.” The PNP says the officer undergoes pre-charge investigation while dismissal proceedings move forward. The shooting resulted in three deaths and 13 other people wounded, according to the reports.
