CD Projekt Red acknowledges that Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled launch in December 2020 continues to affect its reputation, even as the company highlights the game’s later turnaround. Speaking to Edge, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski calls the initial period “heartbreaking” for the studio and says the company is “not 100% convinced” it has completed a full “redemption arc.” He adds that it lost the faith of some players “indefinitely,” while still expressing optimism about the chance to “make it back,” potentially with The Witcher 4 or a future project.
Multiple outlets note that Cyberpunk 2077 launched with serious technical problems, including issues severe enough that Sony removed the game from the PlayStation Store and offered refunds. Over subsequent years, CD Projekt Red released patches that restored and improved the game, and it was later reinstated on the store. The company also points to strong commercial performance, including over 35 million copies sold and major updates such as the 2.0 release and the Phantom Liberty expansion.
The Witcher 4 has no release date, and CD Projekt Red is also working on other projects including a Witcher remake, a new IP, and additional titles.
