Apple’s iOS 27 beta 2, released to developers, expands RCS messaging features in iPhone-to-Android chats. Both Macworld and MacRumors report that iPhone users can now reply directly to a specific RCS message in a green-bubble conversation, using controls similar to iMessage. The change allows long-pressing (or swiping, according to Macworld) a message to bring up a reply option and send an inline, threaded-style response—feature parity that Android messaging ecosystems have supported for longer.
The outlets also note that Apple’s earlier RCS support in iOS 18 used an older RCS version that did not include some capabilities. With iOS 27, Apple appears to move toward a newer RCS Universal Profile implementation that includes features such as replies and improved reactions. Macworld additionally reports backend changes related to message reactions (including Tapbacks), though these improvements are not fully documented yet.
iOS 27 remains in beta and is currently developer-only, with a public beta planned for later and an official fall launch.
